Where and when were you born?
April 20, 1977 -Redwood city
What is your profession?
Personal Trainer and Nutrition Consultant
Were you involved in sports or fitness prior to bodybuilding and how did you get started with weight training?
Soccer, Basketball, Softball and Volleyball. I hurt my back playing collegiate volleyball so I started wt training to strengthen it and then I got addicted to it.
Was it a goal for you to compete in bodybuilding competitions right from the beginning or was it something that grew in your mind as time went on and you saw the progress in your body?
It grew in my mind. Thinking someday I would like to try and compete. I wanted to make sure I had enough size to compete with.
Can you give me your competition history?
Comp history:
Central Valley classic 2003- 1st hvywt and overall
San Francisco 2003 - 1st hvywt and overall
Contra Costa 2004 - 3rd hvywt
California 2004 - 1st middlewt
Contra Costa 2005 - 1st hvywt and overall
USA 2005- 14th hvywt
Which contest has been your biggest success; which has had the most meaning to you?
I was really noticed at the Cal in 2004. But the Conta Costa this year 2005 meant the most to me because I did not win it the year before.
Please tell me something about your training routine (ie: how many days per week / training split /cardio, etc.)
6 days a week
chest and calves
back and abs
quads and calves
shoulders and traps
Bis and tri and abs
hams and calves
Cardio 3xs a week for 30 to 45 min in the off season.
What is your favorite exercise in the gym and which one you don’t like so much?
Favorite exercise. I really to not have a favorite exercise or a non favorite exercise. They are all fun and dreadfull at some point.
Which body part is your best in your opinion?
Best body part = Back
If you don’t mind would you give me some stats (best lifts and some body measurements)?
Squat- 325, Bench press- 225, leg press 1200, one arm dumbell rows- 150's. I dont really measure my body parts. Except my friends measured my arms and they were about 16 and a half inches.
What do you enjoy about training for competition....what do you enjoy about the 'off season'?
I enjoy seeing my body transform and seeing new muscles and separations that I have not seen before.I enjoy lifting heavy and eating in the off season and having somewhat a life.
Please describe a typical day in the life of Shawna Walker.
I wake up at 6:00am and get to work by 8:00 and then I train people all day and squeeze my workout in too. I leave work around 9:30 pm and and get to bed around 11:00. Then the next day I do it all over again.
Please tell me about what you do when you don’t work out ( hobbies, what do you do to relax?, etc.)
I play with my pitbull "Lurch". I ride my yamaha raptor 350 quad in the mountains and on tracks and I spend time with loved ones and relax at home with my candles burning.
What do you enjoy most about the bodybuilding/fitness lifestyle?
I love being different. Thanks to bodybuilding I have become more confident and less shy. I am very secure with the way I look (NOW) I used to be a tooth pick. I love being able to see my body transform when ever I want it to. I enjoy looking the role as a personal trainer.
Tell me something interesting about yourself, something people may be surprised to hear.
I am very self motivated. If I want to do something or learn how to do something then I will teach myself. I tought myself how to play the guitar, knit, cross stitch, make rugs, make candles, ridew my quad, make gift baskets, cook. Oh and I also have chickens at my house because I eat so much eggs. I got chickens so they could lay me fresh eggs everyday.
What are your competition goals or personal future goals?
I would like to take a year off so that I could put more muscle on my tall frame. I would like to do the Emeral cup in Washington in 2007 and then go from there.
Please note:
Shawna does not do sessions or wrestling of any kind. Please don't ask!
