Oakland City Clerk Election Signature Screw Up Angers Allyssa Victory, Others
Oakland City Clerk Election Signature Screw Up Angers Allyssa Victory, Others Three days ago, Allyssa Victory, Oakland lawyer and Oakland Mayoral Candidate, filed her collected signatures with the Oakland City Clerk's Office and tweeted out a victory lap, of sorts, stating: I officially filed my paperwork to become Oakland’s next Mayor! Thank you to all who made it possible for us to reach this point. See full message and join us by signing up at https://ift.tt/8EdZxuQ #electprogress #VoteVictory #AllyssaforMayor #VictoryforOakland That joy turned to horror today, as Ms. Victory learned that her signature batch was rejected. Moreover, the City Clerk told her, and other candidates I talked to, that they were supposed to get their collected signatures in by the 17th of August, but then the same Oakland City Clerk's Office called them to say that the date was Friday, August 12th at 5 PM. When Ms. Victory first learned the news, she was then told that everyone was informed of the time a day before the Friday due date. That gives one day to respond and get signatures to the City Clerk on a date and time not previously planned for. In other words, the Oakland City Clerk's Office gave candidates incorrect information, then tried to correct that error all the while sticking to the Friday deadline and not adjusting it to make up for the misinformation problem. As of this writing, Ms. Victory has called the Oakland City Attorney's Office, but received no feedback. More on this to come. Stay tuned.
