Oakland Jewish Community Forum Now For All Mayoral Candidates Like Allyssa Victory?
Oakland Jewish Community Forum Now For All Mayoral Candidates Like Allyssa Victory?
Oakland Jewish Community Forum Now For All Mayoral Candidates Like Allyssa Victory? Well, in a “How ya like them apples” move, it appears Oakland Mayoral Candidate Peter Liu's troublesome, anti-semetic email ranting that this blogger belive spelled “jailtime” wound up doing exactly what Mr. Liu wanted: getting the San Francisco Based Jewish Community Relations Council's Oakland Jewish Community Forum opened up for all candidates for Mayor of Oakland, rather than a few. (I have to ask why in hell is a San Francisco non-profit organization is hosting an Oakland election event, anyway?) Now, according to emails sent to Zennie62Media by an unnamed source, one of them that was written by Mr. Jonathan Carey, who's affilated with the Oakland Jewish Community Relations Council explained that the event planned for tonight should be opened to all candidates. Apparently, Mr Carey read the laws governing the actions of non-profit organizations during an election, and determined that the JCRC was breaking them. Here's the email by Mr. Carey: On September 15, the JCRC will present an event titled, “Jewish Community Oakland Mayoral Candidate Forum.” Unfortunately, JCRC may have made a potentially serious error when they invited only three out of ten eligible candidates to participate in their sponsored forum Not only does the omission deprive the Oakland Jewish Community from hearing from all candidates on relevant topics, but the metric the JCRC seems to have used for selection early in the campaign cycle was "top three fundraisers." Given the astounding financial inequalities in Oakland and the top-heavy nature of political fundraising, many think that using a financial metric sends a deeply negative message about the Jewish community. Should the Jewish community only get to hear from candidates with early fundraising success, rather than those with fresh ideas? Ironically, the JCRC's exclusion of seven candidates based on money metrics may have triggered one of the candidates to protest his exclusion through the use of the very traditional conspiracy theories and anti-Semitism the JCRC is trying to fight. Furthermore, one of the three candidates that JCRC did select for the forum has already come under scrutiny for fundraising irregularities. (He's referring to Oakland Councilmember Sheng Thao, who's alleged “make big donors look small” plan was revealed at Oakland News Now Blog by Charles Pine of the Coalition for A Better Oakland.) Lastly, as a non-profit organization, the JCRC’s selective political promotion and exclusion may actually be illegal according to Federal law and IRS regulations. Charitable nonprofits and foundations may not “participate in, or intervene in (including publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for political office.” 26 U.S.C. Section 501(c)(3). This prohibition applies to any and all candidates for federal, state and even local elections. See IRS Regulations, Section 1.501(c)(3)-1(3) (iii) It would be far more inclusive, in my opinion, to grant all eligible candidates an opportunity to address the Oakland Jewish community. Jonathan Carey, Oakland, CA Now, as of this writing, it's not clear that the event will go on in the way Mr. Carey advises or just be reset for another date. In an email to Mr. Steven Gellman, Publisher of The Jewish News of Northern California, Carey suggests that the next event be on the ZOOM platform: “It would be better in my opinion to have all eligible candidates and opportunity to address the Jewish community including the ones who may not be the earliest fundraisers. (We can leave out candidate Liu, if appropriate, since he seems to be disruptive). My solution is to hold another event on Zoom something like “Oakland Mayoral Candidates Speak to the Jewish Community.” The date would not conflict with Jewish holidays nor would it be on the heels of this week’s JCRC event.” Stay tuned.

Darwin Bond Graham Of Oaklandside Attacked Barack Obama In History Of Attacks On Blacks In Politics
Darwin Bond Graham Of Oaklandside Attacked Barack Obama In History Of Attacks On Blacks In Politics
I don't know Darwin Bond Graham at all and don't even know or care what he looks like, but the person who started off gaining attention in Oakland for constant hit pieces in, first, the East Bay Express then in Oaklandside, on black public officials or politicos, came up on my radar because he questioned if I was paid to work for my long-time friend Phil Tagami. Now, I have a media company, Zennie62Media, and my feeling was why do I have to explain to, off all people, this dude on Twitter who I am told is white, who seems to think that because I'm black, I have to be paid to help anyone via online website work, let alone someone I have known since 1991? But in his case, Darwin Bond Graham is not a programmer, so he assumes that I am paid to say something, and not even consider that I help many people without pay (including a number of sports journalists like Glenn Dickey) gain an online presence via platform creation. No. He takes that line that I have to be someone's puppet – an extension of slave mentality. So, I looked around (I mean I am too busy to get into the deep on him, not do I care) and I realized that Darwin Bond Graham was the latest in a sad, long, line of white male “journalists” who use their “status” as some sort of badge of honor to do character assasinations of people, mostly black men. And the only way anyone black could hope to get a job in Bay Area print journalism was to do the same thing: attack black men in politics and government. All of this feeds this sad racist desire to make black men look bad in Oakland and the SF Bay Area. Now for me, the episode in Darwin Bond Graham's record that got me triggered was his Oaklandside -based attack on Derreck Johnson, the Oakland business owner who ran against my friend Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan. Anyway, Darwin got after Derreck for saying that he was a “successful business man” and just because his business filed for bankruptcy. Now, look. Former President Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy not once but six times, and yet Trump is called successful. So, why does Derreck Johnson have to be considered unsuccessful? In other words, Trump, white, can call himself successul and have his business (not himself) file for bankruptcy, but Derreck Johnson can't because he's black? That's white supremacy. So, I had forgotten about all of that until Darwin did it yet again by some tip he got that Seneca Scott was arrested for brandishing a gun last year. Well, Seneca, who's running for Mayor, had a reason for doing so – and at a time when Oakland's so dangerous that a number of people carry guns to protect themselves because the Oakland Police never show up – but that reason was tossed aside. The headline was that Seneca Scott, Oakland Mayoral Candidate who's name is at the top of the election ballot, was arrested. Well, news-flash folks, Cat Brooks, who ran for Mayor of Oakland in 2018, and who I wish would have ran again this time, because I'd have supported her, was also arrested in the past and for reasons I support. Namely the call for stopping the Oakland Police from terrorizing black men. So, I wondered how far back Darwin's attacks on black men in politics and government went, and so I found this from 2012: “Darwin Bond-Graham.. He is a contributor to Hopeless: Barack Obama and the Politics of Illusion” And then that was when I also saw Mr. Graham called a “sociologist” and not a “journalist”. The book Hopeless: Barack Obama and the Politics of Illusion was written by a number of “left” writers and because they bought the white liberal kool-aid that because Barack's black he would automatically push for their agenda rather than, shockers, a more middle-ground agenda. In other words, “How dare this black man take on the look of a white man in power” was the basic message. And in the list of writers, I saw Darwin Bond-Graham: “Obama's Nuclear Weapons Surge”. And he wrote “As with many aspects of the Obama Presidency, expectations for dramatic change..” STOP RIGHT THERE. For me, as a black man , the dramatic change was in the large numbers of black professionals who finally got their shot at a great job in, of all places, The White House, and working for America's first black POTUS. The photo of Obama black employees in a line, checking text messages and talking on the phone, and that I saw in Black Enterprise, made me cry tears of sheer joy. All of that completely escaped white male sociologist Darwin Bond Graham and those who wrote Hopeless: Barack Obama and the Politics of Illusion, using words like “Sellout” to describe President Obama. Folks. Barack Obama's not a sellout. No one who dares run to be President of the United States, and is black, is a sellout. Blacks in power is what folks like Darwin fear, and he expresses it in the awful guise of jounalism. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.

Howard Terminal Dead? Oakland A's Dave Kaval Meets Las Vegas LVCVA's Mr. Hill. Hotel Tax?
Howard Terminal Dead? Oakland A's Dave Kaval Meets Las Vegas LVCVA's Mr. Hill. Hotel Tax?
Howard Terminal Dead? Oakland A's Dave Kaval Meets Las Vegas LVCVA's Mr. Steven Hill. Hotel Tax? The latest Howard Terminal Ballpark news is not kind to Oakland. There's a reason that Oakland Athletics President Dave Kaval did not do a victory lap tweet in the wake of what was called by some media outlets (not this one) a full victory. The simple fact is that Judge Brad Seligman maintained his original stance: that the EIR was both mostly done well, and yet had a problem in the area of wind generated by the proposed ballpark's existence. So, Dave Kaval's not interested in coughing up more money to edit the EIR. Meanwhile he's been in Las Vegas. ' According to a politically-connected Las Vegas source in a place to know, Dave Kaval has been meeting with Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Steven Hill. That's a big and previously not reported on deal. Sure, the two initially met last year when Dave made his first trip to Las Vegas after Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said in late March of 2021 (and after realizing just how behind the City of Oakland was in getting its part of the Howard Terminal to-do list done) that MLB was going to look at both Las Vegas and Portland, then Portland faded out of sight - Las Vegas was left standing. And now news on a series of events leading to eventual relocation of the Oakland A's to Las Vegas have heated up. The news of three weeks ago was that Phil Ruffin, the owner of the iconic Treasure Island Hotel, and Trump International Tower (with former President Trump) first met with Kaval and A's Owner John Fisher in Las Vegas. Then, two weeks later, Ruffin was reported to have traveled to Oakland to meet again. Now, we have this news of meeting with Steven Hill. That points to one possible outcome: a stadium hotel tax like the one the Raiders got. it also points to the chance that the LVCVA would float a bond issue rather than Clark County. All the better to escape the politics that could harm Steven Sisolak's relection as Nevada Governor. But, what this means, overall, is that the Oakland A's are deep into engineering a move to Las Vegas. I have seen this movie before: play Oakland right up to the last moment but have the meetings toward development in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and then yet again Las Vegas. On top of this, let's not forget that the A's have been planning to release drawings of a new ballpark for a year now, but fearful of upsetting Oakland and killing any chance of a deal, on top of not securing a final location, backed off. Meanwhile Mayor Schaaf has done a good job of making Howard Terminal her personal show rather than an affair that puts the public front and center. She's failed to establish a stadium authority, made public news about Howard Terminal in her face rather than the City Administrator or project manager, and did not unite Oakland's business community to save then A's, leaving some to work in opposition or just sit on the sidelines. It's amazing there are A's fans who want the team to stay in Oakland even under political circumstances that seem to want to push the organization out of Oakland. Stay tuned.
